Labor day weekend

We spent most of Labor day weekend back east visiting Brent's family.  It was a good visit, and we even got to steal away for an hour or so to celebrate our 11 year wedding anniversary.  (Don't worry, we have dinner plans later this month to really throw down😜)

We drove there is the worst rain storm...and Merritt was overtired and wouldn't sleep in the car, so it was AWFUL.  We almost turned around a few times.  The 2 hour drive took 4 hours....we stopped twice (which didn't really help) and could only go about 35 mph the whole time.  It was torture....

The weather was pretty great the rest of the weekend - not too hot, and the rain had cleared out.  It wasn't quite nice enough to go out on the river, but we were fine just hanging out and visiting.

Brent took me to this place called the Wine Crate for a small date....it was so cute. We ordered 4 flights of wine and a dessert plate.  We sat at the window and watched the waterfront, and just relaxed and enjoyed each other's company...oh, and some peace and quiet.  I need to find a place like this here!

We had to stop for a quick visit to see the Jones'.  Always love our time together:)

Sunday, we all had lunch together then headed back home.

Had to snap a selfie of our QUIET and uneventful ride home....thank God for car naps!

I'm sort of sad because Labor Day marks the end of summer....and while I love routine and need a break from 2 kids (hence, Emma at school!), I miss our lazy mornings and do whatever we feel like days.  This was a challenging summer by far....having a 9 month old and 5 year old is tough...mostly because they don't do the same activities...so I always feel torn.  I'm going to miss sun and water, but look forward to the fall, some slowing down, some routine, and celebrating our favorite holidays.
