Friday Favorites

Here's what I'm loving lately......Happy Friday!!

Bubba water bottles for kids
So, I had used the cute Camelbak ones for Emma and recently decided I was DONE with those - for her and me.  The parts were just too hard to clean, and the mold/mildew that built up in the straw was impossible to get off.  We soaked them in bleach, put them in the dishwasher.....nothing worked.  And it wasn't like I let it sit with a drink for days.  I decided to get a bottle without a straw or any other parts, and this Bubba one is perfect!  They come in all different styles, and both Walmart and Target have them.  Emma loves it, and it's easy to clean!

OFF mosquito home spray

Brent bought this at Lowe's and we have loved having it.  We spray it more than the recommended timeframe, just because our yard backs up to spaces that aren't treated.  It's way cheaper than Mosquito Joe's (which I also hear only works if you and your neighbors go in together).  Emma always gets bites when we are out, and I am paranoid about being the first NC case of Zika...so it;s been reassuring to have this.  But really, I'm ready for the first freeze and no more bugs in general!!

TRX workout

I have loved this workout!!  It's something I do once a week at the Wellness Center, and also on my own when I go to workout there.  It's so customizable, and works every muscle you could ever want.  I love that I can control the movements, and feel secure that I am hanging on to something (in case I lose my balance)  My plan is to continue until the babe arrives:)

Beautycounter tint skin, dew tint

So I could rave on and on about ALL of Beautycounter's products....and probably will in later posts.  I was never really into "safe" beauty, and still am not overly concerned about it, but I love these products because they honestly just work.  (I would read the Never List of ingredients that they refuse to use in their products...it's eye opening for sure!) I had the dew tint (#3) for summer and loved it - it is so soft, silky, and lightweight.  It was just enough coverage for me - not to cover all my freckles, but enough that I looked put together for everyday.  I went with the tint skin (linen) for fall and winter, and it's a bit heavier than a normal tinted moisturizer.  If you want to try their products, I have several friends who sell in the area (who are also super non-pressure)  I would recommend reaching out to them and getting a sample set of the colors so you can get a good match.

Durham consultants Karen and Dana
Wilmington consultant Brandi

Also, Target is running a limited edition of Beautycounter products, so it's a great way to see some of them in person (they are the actual products, not ones made special for Target - only difference is size and price).  I highly recommend the Cleansing Balm, and Color set:)

S'well water bottle

Brent wasn't happy that I spent this much on a water bottle, but I treated myself.  It really does keep my drink cold for over 24 hours, is lightweight, doesn't sweat, and looks oh so cool!  The teakwood is hard to find, and I got the last one at Urban Outfitters.  But I did see that Papersource had some left the other week.  I can totally see myself pouring wine or beer in here for outdoor adventures after baby comes:)

Living Proof Hair products

I am loving the Timeless collection.  I buy the travel sizes from Ulta before I commit to anything.  L'oreal Professionel used to make an again line, but discontinued it.  Before you judge, "aging" really just means it's moisturizing and volumizing at the same time (or at least for me!).  I need moisture because I color my hair, but I also really need volume and softness. I have found these lines (which are hard to find) perfect for me.  Ulta also had a free gift of the 5-in-1 styling treatment, and I am loving that too.  I love the smell, and I love the softness my hair has, but yet not weighed down.  Next on my list is the Restore line, because I like to rotate based on the weather and needs of my hair.

Jason Aldean's New Album

Once again, Jason does not disappoint.  I own every single one of his albums, and love every single one.  I think if someone ever told me that they didn't like his songs, we may have to break up as friends:)  Kidding...sort of...  Emma is loving it too...mama is proud when Emma sings along!

Friday Favorites

I have not done a favorites post in quite some time, but I have a lot I am loving right now!  Enjoy this random selection of goodies that make me smile lately:)

Cerave Lotion and Cream
I've tried a lot of face products, and I've found this to be the best.  I love Beautycounter's Countertime line, but can't bite the bullet just yet.  This line is by far the bet for my skin - it tends to be drier than normal, but sensitive too.  With other lines, I would still feel tight and dry after applying their moisturizer and have to add more or add something else...super annoying.  I have used the cream over winter (worked great!), and am trying the lotion for summer.  So far....no dryness!

Pure Jill elliptical tees
I LOVE these tees.  Pregnant or not, they are awesome.  Not too long, not clingy...and really comfortable.  Since discovering them a few years ago, I have gone through at least 2 white ones (I manage to get something on them..ugh), and have a few other colors.  They just look great and effortless with everything from skinny jeans, leggings, to shorts.

I have these in black and grey, and love them.  I have found mine at Nordstrom Rack for less than $15 a pair most times. They are comfy, durable, and make my feet look skinny (an essential part of shoes, in my opinion!)
Tkees
If I'm not in my Havaianas, I am in these.  I love, love, love these sandals.  They look great, and are comfortable.  I need more colors...hint, hint:)

Hidden Valley Ranch to-go
Perfect for the lake, pool, lunch....I usually pack some broccoli or carrots with it.

Target swimsuits
Oh, Target....you get me everytime.  I go in for laundry detergent and come out with $100 worth of stuff I had no idea I *needed.*

And recently...I bought this cropped halter top...

Don't worry....only my backyard got blessed with my bare preggo belly in this pic:)

So, happy Friday!!!  Here's to the weekend!

Friday faves

In case you need a reason to spend money, here are some things I am loving lately:)

These Target pajamas
I have been wearing old shirts from middle school with mismatched pajama pants my whole life.  I noticed many of these items had holes in them - holes where there should never be holes.  And while I have not thrown these pieces out yet, I did invest in a few more respectful night time outfits.  I almost always wear long pants and a long sleeve shirt to bed, even in the summer.  So when I saw these at Target, and felt the tencel, cozy material, I had to have some!  I have the animal print and the grey, and if they go on sale again, will get another pair.  My friend posted about another, more luxurious brand that she just recently fell in love with - so it will be my next pair.  For now, I am living in these from about 6pm to 6am:)
Women's Pajama Sets - Gilligan & O'Malley®

Pajamas for Em
Hanna Andersson ran a $10 clearance event one day last week, and I stocked up on pj's for Emma.  She has never worn their pajamas (because honestly, I am too cheap to spend $44 on a pair of pajamas for a 3 year old - sue me).  But when they went to $10, it was a no brainer!
I picked up these prints, and a pair for next year.  She is sort of in between sizes, so I went big and I think she could get at least 2 years wear out of the size I bought.

Trader Joe's Mini Heart cookies
Just do yourself a favor and buy these.
Dark chocolate covered chocolate shortbread cookies.

You're welcome.

Jen Hatmaker's Devotion book
I've been getting up early in the morning and reading this with my breakfast.  I love the way she writes - real, funny, and honest.  The readings are about 2 pages long, and there's a question and prayer at the end.  I LOVE starting my day this way and can tell a big difference in my attitude.

Bath and Body Works Winter candle and wallflower
This is by far the best winter home fragrance.  I don't like to spend $22 on candles, so I always look for them to go on sale.  They are half price now, and while most area stores are sold out of the candle (trust me...I looked!), they are still online!

Winter 3-Wick Candle - Home Fragrance 1037181 - Bath & Body Works

J. Crew Pixie/Gigi Pants
I own both versions of these, and can honestly say they are well worth every penny.  I have had them for over 5 years and get soooo much wear out of them.  I have the 5 pocket style and the legging style in black.  I wear them to work with flats, heels, or boots and also around town with Ugg's, Hunter boots, or casual boots.  They are so comfortable (I love elastic!!), but still dressy enough when you want them to be. My only complaint - dry clean only.
I've tried other alternatives (Target has similar ones in stores now), and trust me, it's not worth it.  They don't stay up, and don't flatter your body like these do.  And probably won't hold up as well either.  J. Crew Factory ALWAYS has a sale running, and if you're a student or teacher...you'll get an extra 15% off.  They run slightly big, in my opinion.  I wear a 0 in these, but that's not my typical pant size (Clearly.  Have you seen these hips?!)

Pureology Hair Products
I discovered this line at Ulta, and really only bought it initially because it came in travel sizes and I LOVE travel sizes.  It's a great way to try out new products before committing.  But I also find that I like to use different shampoos and conditioners depending on the weather and what my hair is needing at that particular moment.  I color my hair every 10 weeks or so, and I also wash it almost every day.  I know it's supposed to be better if you don't wash it every day, but I really feel gross if I don't wash my whole self.  I'll rinse off and bathe my body, but still feel like I never really showered.  You know??  Maybe I'm crazy...but I just need a REAL shower most days.
Anywho...I also love L'oreal Professionel Series, but it's pricey and you can only buy it in salons.  My current faves with the Purelogy line are the Nano Works shampoo, Strength Cure conditoner, and Precious Oil conditioner. And actually, I don't own any full size bottles...the travel sizes last a really long time and since I alternate, they work well for me.  I have found that I really like the Nano Works shampoo, so I'll be shelling out a pretty penny for the full size bottle.  But it works for me - the perfect amount of moisture while also cleaning my hair. It's one of those shampoos that you know is awesome because of how luxurious and thick it feels in your hands, yet suds really well. Oh...and the most important - this whole line smells amazing - natural and not too overwhelming.  It reminds me of Aveda's hair care line but not as earthy:)  I don't want to smell like moss and dirt...am I right???

That's all, folks!  Greg Fishel is talking about snow on Sunday...so I'm off to do my snow dance and stock up on wine and baking supplies!!!

Friday faves!

I have been meaning to do a Friday Faves post for awhile...so forgive me for going overboard and posting WAY tooooo many food items.  It's getting colder, and I just can't help but crave comfort foods:)

I'll start with some healthier options...

Trader Joe's Soycutash: This stuff is amazing - it is my go-to vege side for dinner.  Emma eats it (hooray), and so does Brent.  It's in the frozen aisle, so I can always buy a lot and keep it handy whenever I need it.

Trader Joe's Butternut Squash: I hope they still have this now that is not officially "Fall."  I roast this in the oven with a tiny bit of olive olive and salt and pepper sprinkled over it.  It is delicious!

And now, we move to my addiction to gluten and carbs (stop judging me!)

Simply Homemade bread: I discovered this last year and love making it in the winter.  It really does taste like homemade bread, and it is sooooo easy.  All you need is water and an oven.  My favorite is the country white (probably because it is the least healthy). It's in the brownie, muffin mix aisle in most grocery stores.

Cocobon red wine: The best way to enjoy cheaper wine is to buy 2 buck chuck for a few months, then switch back to a more reasonably priced bottle of $7.  I swear, your $7 bottle will taste like a  $20 bottle!  This one is sold at Trader Joe's and Food Lion, and is only $7.  It is really smooth, and not spicy or sweet.

Brie appetizer with crescent rolls and apricot preserves: I got this recipe off Pinterest, and have been making it once a week....again, I may have a carb problem.  It is super easy, super tasty, and just warms the soul.  I try and make a salad to go with it (because that naturally makes it a balanced meal, right?)

I'll throw in a fashion fave just so you don't think I am completely obsessed with unhealthy food choices....

Oka b flats: I've had mine for awhile and sort of forgot about them....Until it rained all fall for like 3 weeks straight and I got really sick of my Hunter boots.  These are very comfortable - way more comfortable than any flat Tory Burch has ever made (*sorry TB, but your flats give me warped feet).  And....they are waterproof!!  They come in a million colors and styles with the cutest embellishments...and are all under $50 a pair.  What????

Sister Schubert rolls: I saved the best for last....they should rename these crack rolls because they are seriously addicting.  I think I may need a support group.  All you do is pop however many you wish (2-3 if it's just me, because that's how I roll...) in the oven, and wait 8 minutes.  Someone please stage an intervention.....

I hope everyone has an awesome Friday!!!!!

Friday Favorites - Fall fashion!!

I am not a fashion blogger...although my husband would argue otherwise based on my closet.  I love putting outfits together, and I love a well organized clothing store.  My years at J. Crew were some happy times, albeit the retail hours are just not for me now that I have a family.  I tend to shop at J. Crew Factory and Gap...I really, really, LOVE the Gap.  When I heard they might be closing a few months back, I went into a panic.  Their merchandise is well made, changes fairly often, and is ALWAYS on sale.  I also think their customer service has gotten a lot better in the last few years as well.  I also love Old Navy, but I have to be more picky about their clothes because I am not sold on the quality.

I needed some new pants (needed is a strong word here), and decided to give Gap and Old Navy's Columbus Day sale a try...

1. I knew when I spotted these in the store that I would love them.  Elastic waist - yes please!!  Comfort and fashion - I'm sold!  They were also 40% off and I had an additional coupon, so I really scored on these.  I love that they are a faded black, so I can wear them more casual.

Of course, when I say I "needed" pants, I had to try them on with tops too.  This plaid top caught my eye and I thought "how cute, but impractical! Who wears flannel short sleeves??"  Then I remembered that fall here can be hot sometimes, and what better way to say "back off summer" then with a plaid flannel short sleeve top?

3. Embroidered top - This top is awesome.  It's the softest flannel ever, and very flattering.  I wore it with the black jeggings and some flats this past weekend.

4. Peplum sweater - I may or may not have only bought this sweater for the color..it is hard to find Carolina blue when you need it!

5. I came across this Pinterest post and fell in love with the colors.  I hate painting my own nails and when I do have painted nails, it is because I have gone to the salon for a gel manicure.  I don't get it done often, because it's pricey and I'm not sure how good it is for your nails....but I loathe waiting for my nails to dry and I hate when they mess up a few days hours later.  But these light colors are easy to put on and won't show wear as bad.  I happen to be in Walmart and came across the exact OPI color...it's beautiful! (Although, on me, the color looks a bit darker)
Just a side note...I think OPI colors are better quality than Essie.  I love all the Essie colors, but they just don't seem to stay on as well, in my opinion.

Fall Nails - Nudes:

6. And of course, no trip to Walmart would be complete with a new pair of slippers!

(Because you either wear them TO the store, or buy em there.... click here for a good laugh)

I am hard on slippers, so I hate to buy expensive pairs. These were $12.94, and I have loved them.  Very comfy, very stylish.  I bought the dark brown color, which I can't find online, but you get the gist.

And I got these for Emma!
Toddler Girl's Polka Dot A-line Slipper Shoe

It's getting really chilly here now (frost advisory????), so I'm super excited!  Although, we have tickets to the football game tomorrow and it's a night game...with temps in the 40's!  I hope I don't freeze!!
Hope everyone's weekend is warm, comfy, and stylish:)

Fri-Yay!

It's Friday...and it has been a busy week - second week back working, second week missing Emma, and students have officially returned and moved in...classes starting Monday. I am excited for them, and getting more used to the idea of working again (man....being off in the summer totally ruined me!)

I don't have as organized a list as last Friday for my favorites.....but a snippet will do for this week:)

The big news this week....
I finally think I have found the perfect hair color for me.  My hair was getting wayyyyy too blonde on top, so we toned it down, added highlights all over, and added a low light.
Thank God, yall.
A friend's daughter asked me why my hair was black underneath a few weeks ago...and that's when I knew I needed to make some changes.  At least 50% of the time, my hair makes it into a ponytail - so just half head highlights weren't cutting it anymore.  I'm super excited and feel so much better about myself:)

Post salon selfie.....

Cooler weather...Emma and I walked to the park and I hardly broke a sweat.
Hallelujah, Praise the Lord!
I actually tried driving with my windows down the past few mornings, and got cold!  It was glorious.

Speaking of cooler weather, I tried these 2 new recipes this week...and they will be on repeat quite a bit this fall - delicious!

This pictures makes me crack up.  Can we just pause for a moment and appreciate the sheer terror on Brent's face as Emma waves a knife around?????  You're welcome, B.

Since Emma is back in school, she has started to bring home more art.  I love all of these, and I keep all of them.  Yup - ALL of them.  This month's theme was very fitting, given Brent's constant work on his "castle."  Emma thinks she is somethin else when she straps her tool belt on and pretends to help Daddy:)

And in other news...I finally took the plunge and opened an etsy shop.  I have been making jewelry for years and years now.  I remember going to a bead shop with my mom when I was 10.  So, I have finally mustered up enough courage to sell some things.  I design a lot of my own pieces, but I also take inspiration from others (mostly because I can't afford their versions).  My rule is...if I wouldn't pay that much for it, then I won't charge that.  I love Twine and Twig...but I can't justify it (still waiting for that lotto win!)  I love making things, so it's not really work (yet) for me.  I made a few things to sell to friends at a ski tournament this summer and had great success, so I decided to do a bit more.  I've had numerous compliments from strangers on my pieces, and I can finally give them a legit place to buy it if they feel so inclined.  Don't get me wrong, I'm paranoid doing this.  It's very scary to put yourself out there, which is why etsy is a good start for me.  I don't know these people and probably never will!  I'm not good at criticism, so if you have some, just leave it for yourself:)

This week, I made my first sale:)  Then had 3 more orders sell in the next 2 days!  All of sudden, it became real!

So, Happy Friday friends!!
May your weekend be filled with smiles, hugs, wine, good food, family, friends, and some time outside!
